PictureCorrect.com: Interesting Photo of the Day: A Splash of Whiskey

The beauty of photographing liquid in motion is that you can never anticipate what kind of splash you will get. While most of the time such splashes are understated, sometimes they can explode with form and motion. Take, for instance, the following image of a whiskey splash taken by photographer Ian Jones:

Jones took the image with a Sony A7III camera and a Tamron 24mm lens at f/4 and 1/2000. He didn’t use any sort of flash; it was shot using purely natural light.

Look closely at the splash: it looks like a forearm and hand that’s trying to reach out. And to make things even more interesting, you can even notice a shiny glare on the “forefinger”. It is so beautiful, it almost looks photoshopped.

In order to achieve this shot, Jones pushed the whiskey glass on the camera and fired his shutter. By looking at the wet table, we can assume he had to try his luck a couple of times before he was able to capture this. Hard work does indeed pay off—hopefully he was able to enjoy the drink after his effort.
