PictureCorrect.com: Interesting Photo of the Day: Lava Flow Sunrise

Of the many natural phenomena that occur, witnessing new land being formed right in front of your eyes should definitely be an interesting one to witness. If you’re wondering what we’re talking about, this is when the hot lava from a volcano meets the ocean waters and cools down to form a solid mass. If it’s stable enough, it can even form an extension of the land.

While many of us may not be lucky enough to witness this, photographer Ryan Dyar sure was lucky enough. Check out the following photo of the instance one fine morning in Hawaii:

It can be a surreal experience to witness land grow. After all, it’s not every day that such events occur. However, it can be a risky affair to get attached to a newly “born” land emotionally as not all newborns are stable. The case was something similar in Dyar’s case. Here’s what he had to say when this exact shelf collapsed some 3  years later:

“It really changed my perspective on the image I made, knowing that all that land below just went POOF and it was gone into the ocean. Wasn’t it like 20+ acres or something?”

Looking at this incredible photo, we can imagine if this was a very common scene when the earth was still young and taking shape. It’s enthralling how the image appears both scary and beautiful at the same time. What an experience it must have been to witness this in person. The heat from the lava, the smell of sulfur, and the whooshing sound as the ocean water boils to form steam – you can feel everything looking at this still photo.

While this photograph checks all the boxes emotionally, it is equally pleasant visually. The way the fresh steam complements the clouds in the sky is noteworthy. Even the way in which the early morning sun adds charm to the chaos is truly mesmerizing. And the best part of this photo has to be the way in which the streams of lava glow brilliantly. It makes them stand out from the rest.
