How much planning goes into your landscape shots? Amateur and professional landscape photographers often research the weather conditions, sunrises, sunsets, and star movement to arrange the perfect shot. In this case, it’s a sunset that only happens during two periods of each year. In order to plan a photograph like this one, you may need to do some research and on-location planning:
Photographer Kevin Huang captured this amazing image of a sunset over Shark Fin Cove, California. He described the amount of time and effort that went into planning this shot, including a collaboration with a weather forecaster who works with photographers. Huang figured out that the sun only sets at this particular angle twice per year, so he had to exercise patience and await one of these occasions.
In order to photograph this, he used five photos and blended them together to create the foreground and then the background. His settings for the sky were ISO 100, 14mm focal length, f/16 and 1/8 of a second shutter speed. For the foreground, he used the same settings besides changing the shutter speed to 1/5 of a second.
