No matter what religion you follow or what culture you’re from, almost everyone can agree that there’s something divine about buildings of worship. The values they hold, the art that’s associated with them, not to mention the architecture, all come together to give a divine feeling. And when the conditions are just right, one can get some beautiful-looking images that encompass all of those feelings. When photographer Felix Van Lantschoot was out exploring the urban areas in Belgium, he came across this abandoned church. Even though it seems to be in a poor condition, you can still appreciate the grandeur of the place:

In this image, the first thing that catches the eye is the mixture of sunlight and dust that envelopes the otherwise empty space. While dust is something we usually don’t appreciate, it plays an important role in this image. It adds so much to create the atmosphere in this image. It has even made the person in the image appear as a ghostly figure.
“There was a lot of dust on the ground so we stirred it and it went up. We waited a bit until it appeared gorgeous like this with the sunrays.”
Although the church may no longer be in use, the architecture is quite remarkable. The massive pillars and the arches give a hint of how majestic the place must have been back in the day. We wonder what caused it to be abandoned and left so empty.
