When visiting a new location or country, it’s important that you have a clear idea of the main places that you will be focusing on as a photographer. There’s no point in trying to photograph everything on the first attempt. It’s too much for one trip. Focusing on two, or maybe three places, depending on the duration of your stay, allows you to come back to the same place more than once and get the best possible perspective. And with it the best possible photos:
This 15-and-a-half minute video, by photographer Nigel Danson, has a ton of information on how to capture the perfect landscape photo. Especially, when you’re visiting the place for the first time.
It demonstrates small things like how to use a lens that’s as wide as 14mm to create stacked images. Sometimes, even a 14mm wide lens is not enough!
You have to think out-of-the-box and employ techniques that can capture a compelling picture. Try something that will do justice to what you see while also telling the story of your location. Remember that others may not be lucky enough to see it in person, so they depend on your photograph to get a sense of what it’s like.
