We’re so used to seeing images of either the lush green pasturelands or the snow-covered mountains of Switzerland that we might be surprised to see Switzerland also has some barren rocky topographies. In fact, if you go anywhere above 2,000 to 2,500 meters in the Alps, you will see that the landscapes are mostly barren. However, that doesn’t mean that they are any less beautiful. Take for instance the following image taken by photographer Christian Scheiffele of the Glacier Valley region:
Scheiffele took this image with the Sony A7RIII camera at 12mm focal length. Immediately, you can tell that the image doesn’t look like any of the generic Switzerland photos that we see all the time. In fact, the image looks so alien, so eerie, yet beautiful all at the same time.
It’s beautiful how the river in the foreground and the clouds work together to create leading lines and draw the eyes right into the peak at the center. That’s some fine composition work by the photographer. Also, all the colors in the image are so pleasing to the eye. While the image does have a desaturated look, the yellows still beautifully complement the blues in the sky and water, which makes it all the more pleasing.
This is such a well-taken image that it looks like a work of art from a master painter. How do you feel about this image?
