Light painting really pushes photographers to their limits in multiple ways. Besides having steady hands, you need to clearly understand what you want to achieve in your mind. The latter part tends to be a little more challenging in the sense that you need to use the space around you as your canvas. With proper execution and the right level of creativity, you will be surprised by the results you can achieve. Take for instance the following image by light painting expert photographer Darren Pearson. With such precise execution, the image is no less than a masterpiece:
Pearson used a tool for this light drawing purpose called a Night-Writer that he developed himself. Maybe it was his innovative tool, or it could have been his steady hands, but the precision in the painting and the gentle curves of his art’s outline are immaculate.
What’s even more impressive is the fact that he managed to draw this in the middle of a pool of water. And there’s the reflection on the pool that adds a symmetrical look to the image and makes it so pleasing to look at.
Besides the butterfly itself, even the rocky body forming the pool is an interesting element of this image. It does an excellent job of drawing the eyes into the image while beautifully framing the main subject of this photograph.
What do you have to say about the level of precision in this image?
