Wouldn’t you love it if you could generate some income doing something you’re passionate about? Work wouldn’t feel like work that way. And while that’s an interesting thought, not everyone gets to live the dream. Especially when it comes to landscape photography, building a career isn’t an easy task. However, it’s not impossible either. In this video, landscape photographer Mark Denney shares his experience with building a successful career as a landscape photographer:
One of the biggest challenges that you’ll face as a landscape photographer is how rarely anyone reaches out to you to have an image of a specific landscape taken. The business model differs completely from other genres like wedding, portrait, or even real-estate photography.

Denney essentially talks about three important factors that you need to pay attention to in order to drive your career forward: creating values, identifying your strengths, and working on what’s slowing you down. You need to start off by differentiating yourself from others. Look at how you can create value rather than just sell stuff. People really appreciate when you tend to go that extra mile for them.

While generating quality work for others, it’s equally important to monitor what’s working for you and what’s not. This way, you can keep on building on the revenue channels that work for you. This also gives you an opportunity to either work on strengthening, or even boycott the sources that aren’t working well.
It’s important to remember that building a career on photography will take time. You may not see immediate results. So, it’s necessary that you maintain patience and keep the passion alive.
