With the recent trouble that the world is going through, many of us have been forced to stay indoors for an extended period of time. And as we have come to know through experience, it’s not always an easy task. As much as it’s daunting physically, it’s been mentally challenging as well. And this is especially true for creative work heads – us photographers included. It can get really difficult to keep the creative juices flowing while being secluded at home. To keep herself occupied during quarantine, photographer Tayserko took the following self-portrait and it’s absolutely beautiful:
She took the image with her Canon 5D mark IV and 50mm f/1.2 lens at f/1.2, 1/250s, and ISO 100.
It’s really beautiful how she managed to balance the exposure between her face and the reflection. And interestingly, she didn’t use any sort of artificial lighting for the shoot. She lit the image naturally and just used a reflector to fill in the shadows.
“I was using natural light from the right side and a silver reflector aimed at the left to help with shadows.”
The flow of emotion that’s happening in this image is quite noteworthy. While the person seems to be deeply engaged with her reflection, the reflection on the other hand connects to the viewer with its eye-contact. The way it’s looking right at the viewer is beautiful and spooky at the same time.
Another interesting aspect of this image has to be the little heart-shaped earring. It gives a tiny glimpse into her personality when there’s so much vagueness about her. It gives a touch of individuality to an otherwise mysterious lady.
This is indeed a well taken self-portrait by Tayserko.
