Wedding photographers are trusted with the responsibility to capture one of the most important days of two individuals, and doing it for the first time can be really scary. But if you are well prepared, both mentally and technically, things don’t need to be stressful. If you are a wedding photographer who’s relatively new on this field, we have a new video by wedding photographer Taylor Jackson, who shares some key tips to help you out on your first wedding shoot:
When starting out, you might have questions about what gear or lighting equipment you should bring. Too often, beginners believe that more is better. But in reality, that is not the case at all. Simplicity is always the winner. And that holds true not only for equipment: it’s the same for poses and composition as well.
Besides gear and photography techniques, it is equally important that you remain clear-headed, too. That means not overthinking things and not getting too scared. People skills are equally important. Learn to get along with the couple, their parents, the bridesmaids and the groomsmen. They are the ones with whom you’ll be interacting the most. Understand that getting along with them, and being able to direct them when necessary, can make your job easier and the end product better.
If you’re a relatively new photographer, and your first wedding session is right around the corner, be sure to go through the video. Jackson covers a lot of topics that’ll definitely help you out.
