PictureCorrect.com: London Canals Hyperlapse

Despite the relative complexity of the process in making them, hyperlapses are becoming increasingly commonplace. More and more photographers are trying their hands to create hyperlapses. Some with pretty ordinary results while others are breathtaking. It’s the ones that truly display the use of innovative approach and freshness of subject that really catches the eye and leave an impression. Much like this one by Digital Snowball:

For this project, the crew from Digital Snowball spent two weeks in London shooting more than 20,000 RAW images, filling up a 3.6 TB of memory space. The shoot was done around some of the most iconic London canal spots and features all sorts of transport, including a canal boat, a cargo bike, and even a helicopter!

But despite the understandable difficulties of shooting such a massive number of images, the biggest challenge was not the sheer volume of work but the unpredictable London weather.

Tools for Shooting a Hyperlapse

The crew used an array of tools for shooting the images:

  • Nikon D810
  • Panasonic GH4
  • Sony A7S II and a7R II
  • Canon 16–35mm lens
  • Canon 70–200mm lens
  • Nikon 14mm lens

Hyperlapse Post-Processing

The crew used Lightroom, Premiere Pro, and After Effects to put all the images together. All that work transformed into this fantastic one-minute clip of London’s famous canals.
