Converting your regular camera to an infrared camera allows you to expand your photography beyond what we can see. This makes photography much more exciting and can even cultivate new creative habits. The best part is that you get to view your subjects and locations in a radically new way. Take for instance the following image, shot by experimental photographer Mathieu Stern. It’s a regular greenhouse, but the way it looks is surely mindblowing:

Stern shot the image with a Sony A7II that’s been modified into a full-spectrum infrared camera.
The first thing you notice is the unique look of the image. Vegetation is of course normally green, but that’s not how infrared cameras see it. That’s why infrared cameras are known to give a surreal feel, especially when shooting landscape shots. And the feeling mostly has to do with the unnatural vivid reds and oranges in the image. Thanks to the vividness and brilliant tones in the image, you wouldn’t be alone if you mistook the cactus for corals. What do you think of this image? Let us know in the comments.
