PictureCorrect.com: Comparing Colors from Canon & Fuji Cameras

Differentiating between leading camera competitors is more difficult than most professionals would care to admit. It’s true that Nikon, Canon, Sony, and Fuji all have slight edges in different disciplines – however, models across the board generally share comparable features and similar specs. But one aspect that can vary a great deal between providers is color.

See for yourself just how differently two cameras can “see” the same scene. Follow along as documentary photographers Denae and Andrew compare and contrast images from the Canon EOS RP against those from a Fuji X-T3.

To keep things simple, all of the following shots were taken with a white balance calibrated for daylight. Although the images in this blind test were made with different lenses, the compositions are similar enough that focusing on color alone shouldn’t be too much of a challenge.

First up, let’s take a look at a selection from the Canon RAW and Fuji RAW comparison, imported from both Lightroom and Capture One:

B= Fuji RAW (Lightroom)
C= Fuji RAW (Capture One)
D= Canon RAW (Capture One)

Next, let’s take a look at a JPEG output comparison:

Spot any differences in the above photo sets? Their identities are as follows:

A= Canon Standard JPEG
B= Fuji Classic Chrome JPEG
C= Fuji Provia JPEG

While the color variations between files are subtle, they’re certainly present. Of course, what looks best is all a matter of your personal preference.
