PictureCorrect.com: Landscape Photographer Shares Some Bad Habits to Avoid

The thing about bad habits is that they’re quite easy to develop. Unfortunately, getting rid of them can be very difficult. So unless you put in active effort, chances are those habits will stick around. In photography, bad habits can severely impact your work and results. To help you self-correct, landscape photographer James Popsys shares a couple of his photography bad habits that he needs to end:

The bad photography habits that Popsys shares in the video are not all that serious. For instance, forgetting where we put a lens cap is an easy one to fall for. We just need to be more aware of where we place it. But the other bad habits that he shares can seriously impact your photography in the long run.

For instance, if you like to shoot without leaving any space to crop later, that’s risky. It’s great if you’re sure about your image; otherwise, it is always a good idea to shoot a bit wider. This way, you get some extra room to play with if you need to fine-tune your perspective in post.

Also, if you too like to stay a bit longer in hopes that you can improve your image, you might want to think again. This process has diminishing returns, as you could otherwise move to another spot and take different photos. Think before you over-commit to your images.

Another good lesson from Popsys’s bad habits is to always go through your camera settings before starting the day’s work. You might have been shooting at unnecessarily high or low aperture, ISO or shutter speed the previous day. This is common sense, but most of us have made the mistake at some point in time.

Popsys shares some more of his bad habits in the video and we highly encourage that you watch it. It’s a good idea to learn from the errors of others so you can rectify them yourself. If you have any bad photography habits, feel free to share them in the comments below. We’d love to know about them.
