July 25, 2016 started out like any other typical day in New York City. However, before the day was out, photographer Dan Piech turned it into an extraordinary one. During a typical summertime thunderstorm, a gigantic lightning strike rocked lower Manhattan’s Battery Park City all the way to Jersey City, New Jersey:
Having photographed boatloads of storms in the past, he grabbed his Canon 5DS and captured a substantial lightning strike that spanned the entire Hudson River. Using a single long exposure shot, Piech was able to snap one of the most amazing cloud-to-ground lightning strikes photos to ever be caught on film. This awe-inspiring photo is aptly titled “The Hand of Zeus,” and it’s a testament to the beauty and power Mother Nature has over the earth.
