New Zealand is truly a beautiful country that’s blessed with some almost surreal-looking landscapes. The breathtaking volcanoes, the beautiful mountains, and the lush forests all together make the country a true paradise on Earth. If you happen to visit the country, you’re sure to come across something mind-blowing, that perhaps locals look at as if it weren’t a big deal. Photographer Matt Fischer was casually walking through a forest on the west coast of the South Island of New Zealand when he came across this beautiful waterfall:
Fischer took this image on a Nikon D800 with a Nikkor 16-35mm lens. He had to blend two exposures to get the final result. First, he took a long exposure to capture the motion in the flowing water. He then took a second exposure at a much faster shutter speed to get a sharp image of the leaves in the frame. He then blended the images together in post to portray the flowing water amidst still surroundings.
The highlight on the surface where the water from the fall comes in contact adds an ethereal look to the image. It’s almost as if it’s a portal to some other world that’s been hiding in the forest. If you’re curious about the scale of the waterfall, you might be surprised to know that it’s just about 3 feet high. It may be small, but it surely does make you feel relaxed just looking at the photo. Imagine how relaxing it would be to spend some quality time here.
