You may have seen the selfie stick—but have you seen the selfie string? It seems this is how inventive photographers were shooting selfies back in 1935, apparently:
Pictured here with a fabulous sable collie is John Jard’s grandfather. According to Jard, his grandfather achieved this shot in Ontario, Canada, pretty easily. He tied a piece of string to the camera’s shutter release and simply pulled. It would take another 80-odd years before anyone thought to add a stick to the mix, though.
