PictureCorrect.com: Interesting Photo of the Day: First Sun on Treetops

How often do you notice that brilliantly done paintings are thought to be photographs and beautiful photographs are thought to be paintings? Well, photographer Tristan Todd took an image that looks like a painting at Chilliwack Lake in British Columbia:

sun kissed tree tops on lake side

The image is a single exposure that Todd shot at 125mm, f/7.1, 1/125 second, and ISO 100. He processed the image using Lightroom, Photoshop, and Luminar.

“I made adjustments to darken the areas not directly illuminated by the sun and really cranked the luminosity of the trees. The glow in the corner was added in post.”

The contrast in the image certainly makes the sun-kissed treetops stand out from the rest. Also, the addition of the glow in the corner is a nice touch. Besides these obvious attractions, the bright streaks in the reflection add further interest to what would otherwise be wasted negative space.

This image is certainly a brilliant example of how good post-processing can add value to a well-taken image.
