Beautiful location, amazing composition, fantastic weather conditions—these three ingredients can help create some mind-blowing images. But while the choice of location and photography skills are up to the photographer, the weather is something we cannot control. This is one of the reasons why many photographers opt to shoot during golden hours. The magical touch of the golden light really adds a sense of drama and elevates images to an entirely different level. Take, for instance, the following image taken by photographer Markus Bar in David Lake, Ontario, Canada. The lake seems to be shining in full glory while the sun is all ready to set:
Bar shot the image with a Sony A7III and Sigma 24mm f/1.4 lens. He focused-stacked two images in order to have a greater depth of field. As highlighted earlier, this image ticks the three boxes of a great landscape photo: the location is great, the composition is lovely and the weather is perfect.
If you notice, the effect of the golden hour is so dominant in this image that the entire color palette of the image is defined by the beautiful tones of yellow and orange. While the mixture of golden and dark clouds is dramatic in itself, the reflection of the sky on the sky is what ties the picture together.
You’d be forgiven if you mistook this image for a painting. Wouldn’t you love to spend your evening in such a picturesque location?
