It takes a special kind of patience to make the natural world look as beautiful as it can. For Minnesotan photographer Derek Griggs, that means waiting around in sub-zero temperatures to capture a sunset over Lake Superior, as he did to snag this image:
As Griggs explains, the photo may be pleasant, but the effort it took to capture it was anything but:
“It was taken at the Hollow Rock Resort along highway 61 along Minnesota’s north shore. I ventured out into -5 degrees Fahrenheit with winds around 20mph. It was freezing to say the least. It was so cold the water was freezing instantly to my camera, lens, tripod and myself.”
Just goes to show, a photographer’s commitment is second to none.
