PictureCorrect.com: 8 Details to Look for When Photographing Weddings

When shooting weddings, most photographers are tempted to stick to certain rules—wide shots of the venue, candids of the bridesmaids, quick captures of drunken dancing. But a lot of beauty, too, can be found in the details. This quick video crams a lot of different perspectives and ideas into four minutes, and is sure to inspire any budding or professional wedding photographers:

The “eight details” they reference are really just objects found at virtually every wedding. But what the video does well is show you different ways to capture them.

The list of things to look for includes:

  1. Rings—look for interesting symmetry, patterns and interesting backdrops
  2. Shoes—use simple black backgrounds and emphasize high-end brands
  3. Dresses—place them in different environments, or emphasize them with the bride
  4. Necklaces—shoot them against clean white or black backgrounds, or find interesting bokeh
  5. Watches—either shoot them with other men’s jewelry or on the groom himself
  6. Earrings—use their shape to shoot them dangling, alone or on the bride
  7. Bouquets—again, shoot them in the bride’s hands, or in the hands of bridesmaids
  8. Bracelets—either shoot them on bride, or find interesting reflections or patterns

As with all photography, the trick is to take something that feels routine—which wedding photography certainly can—and spice it up by finding new angles, shapes and colors. Don’t settle for the obvious.
